The installation time is approx. 1 hour, which can vary according to the condition and fittings of the vehicle.

Target group:

The target group for these installation instructions is technical personnel trained on BMW passenger cars. All maintenance, repair, installation and adjustment work on passenger cars must be carried out on own authority.

All operations should be carried out with the aid of current BMW

  • repair manuals,
  • maintenance manuals and
  • working instructions

in a logical sequence using the prescribed tools (special tools) while observing the applicable health and safety regulations.

General notes:

The installation of the protective cover is shown for the front left-hand seat. The protective cover can be installed on the front right-hand seat in the same way, but mirror-inverted.

The front seats can be covered with the protective covers both while installed and while removed. It is easiest to fit the protective covers with the front seats removed.

Safety instructions

The front seats can only be removed and fitted by a BMW dealership.This is the only place where there is appropriately trained staff with the required tools and equipment.

BMW shall bear no liability for any damage resulting from a failure to observe the specified working steps and notes. Improper assembly and handling which deviates from the installation instructions shall void any warranty claims against BMW AG.

All safety instructions (e.g. with regard to cable connectors or the disarming of the belt lock tensioner) must be followed exactly.

With electric seat adjustment: Before removing, move the front seats as far upward as possible and adjust the backrest to an angle of approximately 45° toward the rear relative to the seat cushion.

The fastener strip of the Velcro fastener (3) faces in the driving direction.

Pull the protective cover (1) over the headrest (2) and adjust it to the contours. Close the protective cover (1) with the Velcro fastener (3) located on the underside of the protective cover (1).

Lay the protective cover (1) on the seat cushion (2) and adjust it to the contours.

Lay the rubber tapes on the outside of the seat as follows:

Lay the rubber tape (1) between the seat trim (2) and the first-aid kit (5), if present, (see arrow). Insert the rubber tape (3) into the gap between the seat trim (2) and the hinge cover (4) (see arrow).

Lay the rubber tapes on the inside of the seat as follows:

Lay the rubber tape (1) next to the first-aid kit (2), if present. Lay the rubber tape (3) between the seat (4) and the adjustment mechanism (5).

The rubber tapes must not be hooked into electrical components, cables or mechanical moving parts, and must not impair their operation.

Pull out the thigh support (1) and lay the protective cover (2) on the seat cushion (3). Adjust the protective cover (2) to the contours.

Vehicles with sports seat

Apply the Velcro strips (1) to the thigh support (2) so that the protective cover (3) can be secured with the fastener strips (4). Press the fastener strips (4) onto the Velcro strips (1).

Ensure good fitting of the protective cover in the area of the thigh support. Lay the rubber tapes as on the standard seat (see Figures F 46 0700 EVA and F 46 0701 EVA) and hook in (see Figure F 46 0702 EVA).

3.Cover backrest

Before pulling the protective cover (1) onto the backrest (2), open the zipper completely.

Pull the protective cover (1) onto the backrest (2) from the inside of the seat and adjust it to the contours.

Pull the Velcro fastener strip (3) toward the back between the backrest and the seat cushion. Pull the Velcro fastener strip (3) up around the back of the backrest (see arrow) and press the Velcro fastener (4) onto it.

Close the protective cover (2) with the zipper (1).

Reinstall the seats in the reverse order of removal.
