Important information

Target group
The target group for these installation instructions comprises personnel trained on BMW cars.
All servicing, repair, installation and adjustment work on BMW cars is completed at the
workshop’s own responsibility.
All the work is to be completed with the help of the latest BMW
– Repair instructions,
– Servicing manuals,
– Work instructions,
in a rational sequence and using the prescribed tools (special tools) and in compliance with
current health and safety regulations.

General note
Install the backrest, the rear seat and the centre armrest back into the car following the
instructions for their removal in reverse. Refer to the installation instructions in the repair
manuals.

Care instructions
These covers must only be cleaned with clean water and a cloth or brush.

Safety instructions
The centre armrest, backrest and rear seat may only be removed and installed by a BMW
workshop, which is the only place to have the appropriately trained personnel with the
required tools and equipment.
BMW AG cannot accept any liability for damage caused by a failure to follow the work
sequences and safety instructions. If the protective rear cover is installed and handled in a
manner contrary to that set out in the installation instructions, all guarantee claims to BMW AG
will be rendered void.

1. Preparations

To remove and install / replace the rear seat TIS AW-No. 52 24 005
To remove and install / replace the backrest TIS AW-No. 52 24 010

2. To cover the centre arm rest and the backrest

Ensure that the protective cover (1) is installed under the locking mechanism (2). Pull the protective cover (1), starting from the corners (3), on to the centre armrest (4) and adjust it to the contours. Remove the backing foil from the self-adhesive Velcro strips. Press the Velcro fastenings (5, 6, 7, 8 and 9) firmly to with Velcro strips on the plastic casing of the centre armrest (4).

Ensure that the backrest lugs (1) are not covered by the protective cover (2). Pull the protective cover (2) over the backrest (3) and adjust it to the contours. Stretch the protective cover (2) on the rear of the backrest (3) using the rubber straps (4) and hook it into position. The magnified section shows an installation example with one pair of rubber straps. Proceed in the same way with all the other rubber straps.

Press the Velcro fastenings (1 and 2) on to the corresponding Velcro strips sewn on to the protective cover (3).Tighten the Velcro fastening straps (4, 5, and 7) and press them on to the Velcro fastening lug (8).

3. To cover the rear seat

Ensure that the openings for the locking mechanism (1) are not covered by the protective cover (2).
Pull the protective cover (2) on to the rear seat (3) and adjust it to the contours. Stretch the protective cover (2) on the rear of the rear seat (3) using the rubber straps (4) and hook it into position. The magnified section shows an installation example with one pair of rubber straps. Proceed in the same way with all the other rubber straps.
Attach the hooks (5) to the foamed wire insert (6). The magnified section shows an installation example for the hooks (5) on one side of the rear seat. Proceed in the same way on the other side of the rear seat.

Tighten the Velcro fastening straps (1 and 2) and press them on to the right-hand Velcro fastening lug (3).
Tighten the Velcro fastening straps (4 and 5) and press them on to the left-hand Velcro fastening lug (6).
