BMW Installation Instructions

These installation instructions are only valid for cars with SA 640

Important information

This upgrade kit is for use within the BMW dealership organisation only.

Target group

The target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with specialist knowledge of vehicle electrical systems.

Work:

All servicing, repair and installation work on BMW cars is completed at your own risk.

All work is to be carried out using current BMW

– Repair manuals – Circuit diagrams in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations.

Ordering instructions

Centre console insert

A black insert for the centre console is supplied in the upgrade kit.

An insert for the centre console in other colours for cars with different interior colours can be ordered if required. See the EPC for all further ordering information.

Safety instructions

The current accident prevention regulations must be followed.

Refer to the safety instructions for handling components of the airbag system. Further information is available in the TIS in RA No. 32 34 … If you fail to follow the safety instructions the airbag system may deploy incorrectly and cause injuries.

The following special equipment must be taken into consideration when installing the upgrade kit. The various sections contain corresponding information.

4.To install and connect the hands-free control module

[1]Insert the hands-free control module (1) into the holder (2) and secure it with the bar (3).

Bolt the holder with the hands-free control module (1) to the body stud (3) on the left-hand side of the boot using hexagonal screws (2).

Connect branch B3 to the hands-free control module (1).

Release the tied back plugs X18618 and X18626 from the standard wiring harness.Connects branches B1 and B2 to plugs X18618 and X18626.

Connect the black 12-pin plug (1) for the eject box to the interface (2).Insert the interface (2) into the holder (3).

5.To install the aerial resistor

Disconnect the aerial cable plug connector (1) in the boot. Connect the aerial resistor (2) between the aerial cable (1).

6.To install and connect the eject box

[2]Clip the eject box (1) into the armrest (2).

Place the slide plate (1) on the armrest (2) and secure it with Philips screws (3).

Bolt the holder (1) for the interface to the centre console (2) with Philips screws (2).

Connect the black 12-pin plug (1) for the eject box to the interface (2).

Insert the interface (2) into the holder (3).

Connect the black 6-pin plug (1) for the eject box to the black 6-pin plug (2) for the interface.

Connect the aerial cable (3) for the eject box to the standard aerial cable (4).

The adapter cable A must be fitted.

Connect the adapter cable A between the black 18-pin plug for the interface and plug X4545 on the standard wiring harness.

7.To install the hands-free microphone

Cars without SA 401 only

Release the tied back plug X4221 from the standard wiring harness and connect it to the hands-free microphone (1).

The arrow on the hands-free microphone (1) must point to the front of the car.

Clip the hands-free microphone (1) into the trim (2).

Cars with SA 401 only

Release the tied back plug X4221 from the standard wiring harness and connect it to the hands-free microphone (1).

The arrow on the hands-free microphone (1) must point to the front of the car.

Clip the hands-free microphone (1) into the trim (2).

8.Concluding work and coding

This upgrade system does not require coding.

  • Conduct a brief test with DIS/MoDiC.
  • Conduct a function test
  • Assemble the car again following the instructions to dismantle it in reverse order.

If necessary, the circuit diagram for the telephone preparation (SA 640) and for the adapter cables can be taken from the installation instructions entitled “Telephone upgrade circuit diagrams, part No. 01 29 0 140 378” on the installation instructions CD.
