BMW Installation Instructions

These installation instructions are only valid for cars with SA 601 (TV function).

Installation time

The installation time is approx. 2.5 – 3 hours, but this may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it.

Important information

Before installing the retrofit kit, use the latest CIP application to ascertain the car’s status and if necessary update the software in accordance with the action plan. The actual duration of the software update can vary for technical reasons.

Target group

These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by authorised BMW service companies. In any event the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with the appropriate specialist knowledge.

All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals and work instructions in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations.

Installation information

Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car.

When routing fibre optic cables, make sure the bending radius is no less than 25 mm.

The installed cables are to be secured with cable ties.

If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used.

After the installation work the retrofit kit must be programmed / coded using DISPlus, MoDiC III or GT-1 via the Retrofit path.

Ordering instructions

If the car is fitted with a 90 Ah battery, this battery should be replaced by a more powerful 110 Ah battery.

Information on operation

The DVD function is only active when the car is at a standstill.

The magazine of the DVD changer is not compatible with that of the CD changer.

1.Preparations

5.To install the fan and module holder

DVD Changer Retrofit BMW 7 Series (E65 and E66)

[1] Use cable tie U to fit filter T onto radial fan G.

Use Philips screws Q to screw radial fan G onto holder F.

Insert plug holder S into holder F.

Use Allen bolts O to screw axial fan I onto holder H.

Insert plug holder R (white) into holder H.

Insert rear vent E into the side panel.

Stick insulation C onto the boot floor.

Screw on rear module holder J and front module holder K.Push speed nuts L onto rear module holder J and front module holder K.

Use hexagonal screws M to screw radial fan G onto rear module holder J.
Use hexagonal screw M to screw axial fan I onto front module holder K .

6.To install and connect the wiring harness

Undo and release the tied back joint connector terminal 30 X1889.

Use adapter Z if the joint connector terminal 30 X1889 is occupied.

Connect branch A2, RT/WS cable, to joint connector terminal 30 X1889.

Screw branch A1 to joint connector terminal 31 X13094.

Connect branch A3 to axial fan I.

Connect branch A4 to radial fan G.

Connect branch A5 to DVD changer B.

Use Philips screws N to screw on DVD changer B.

Use hexagonal screws M to screw on cover D.

Route branches A6 and A7 to the video module (1).

[2] Disconnect plug X10642 from the blue plug (2) of the video module.

Disconnect the incoming fibre optic cable (1) from PIN 1 of plug X10642.

Connect the disconnected fibre optic cable (1) to branch A6.

Connect branch A7 into PIN 1 of plug X10642.

Insert plug X10642 into the blue plug (1) of the video module (2).

Connect branches A8 and A9 into natural coloured plug X18804 of the video module (1) as follows:- Branch A8, black cable, to PIN 3- Branch A9, shield, to PIN 11

Route branches A10 – A12 to the right-hand side of the boot.

Connect branch A10 to the control unit carrier (2).

Connect relay W to branch A10.

Connect branch A11 into PIN 1 of plug X4844.

Route branch A12 to the front and fit the fuse holder (1).

Connect branch A12 into PIN 18 of plug X1856.

If pin chamber 18 is occupied, use miniature connector Y to connect branch A12 to the VI/BR cable of PIN 18.

Insert fusible link 5 A X into slot 71.

7.Concluding work

  • Connect the battery
  • Encode the DVD changer using DISPlus, MoDiC III or GT-1 via path Retrofit.
  • Conduct a brief test
  • Perform a function test of the DVD changer
  • Re-assemble the car
