Cut the cam (1) using a suitable tool.

Solar ventilation system retrofit BMW 3 Series Saloon (E46/3), BMW 3 Series Touring (E46/3), BMW 3 Series Coupe (E46/2), BMW 3 Series Compact (E46/5)

Install the headlining frame A as described in TIS 54 12 136 and then lower it into the cassette.

Use the stops G and countersunk screws H supplied in the kit for this purpose.

After it has been cut the cam (1) must no longer be in contact with the headlining

frame A at any point.

Install the solar glass cover B as described in TIS 54 12 003.

Move the solar glass cover B backwards by approx. 10 cm. Push the cam spring F in the headlining frame A forwards until it is level with the holes in the solar glass cover B.

Secure the headlining frame A to the solar glass cover B using the screws D. Cover the screws D with plastic caps I.

! It is essential that you use the screws D from the parts kit. If you use longer screws the

solar glass cover may be damaged.

Then close the sunroof.

Before you install the blower trim C ensure that the button is set to the 0 position. If the blower wheel starts unexpectedly it may injure you.

Make the cable connection between the blower trim C and the solar glass cover B.

Clip the blower trim C into the recess in the headlining frame A with an audible click.

If necessary, move the blower trim C into its ideal position.

4.Removal for repair work

Lift up one side of the sunroof to remove the blower trim C. Press on the interlock (1) with a tool from the outside, pull the blower trim C down into the interior and disconnect the cable.

Then undo the two screws D on the glass cover.

Then continue as described in the TIS instruction.

5.Concluding work

This retrofit system does not require coding.

  • Conduct a brief test
  • Initialise the sunroof as described in the TIS instructions

Check that the solar ventilation system works in daylight / sunshine.

6.To operate the solar ventilation system

(Give this to the customer, enclose the information sheet with the owner s handbook)

For use as an auxiliary ventilation system (for example when parked)

  • Raise the solar glass cover into its tilt position (see owner s manual for the car)
  • Button position I : Solar ventilation system On

Ensure that the solar ventilation system does not disturb any items in the car (such as sheets of paper), which may set off the car alarm system (interior protection).

For use as an additional ventilation system (for example during a journey or in a traffic jam)

  • Raise the solar glass cover into the tilt position.
  • Button position I : Solar ventilation system On
  • Note: Ventilation using the solar system will only work whilst the car is moving at low speed.

To switch off the solar ventilation system

  • Button position 0 : Solar ventilation system Off

Important information:

Changes to the standard solution

  • The headlining frame with the blower can no longer by moved by hand as a result of its being connected to the solar glass cover (no trough handle).
  • The solar glass cover is not transparent (no panoramic roof effect).
  • The function of the ventilation position (see owner s manual for the car) is made possible by the blower trim with the switch set to 0 and the solar glass cover in its tilted position.

General instructions

  • To obtain the best effect from the solar cells, you must prevent or clean all dirt from the solar glass cover.
  • The solar ventilation system may only be operated with the solar glass cover in its tilted position.

(The blowers will fail as a result of the risk of overheating if the solar glass cover is closed.)

  • The solar ventilation system does not have a filter system (people suffering from allergies!).
  • The sunroof s water drain system can remove a water volume of 20 l/min x m2 (corresponds to a sudden downpour) with the glass cover in its tilted position without water getting into the interior of the car. If the rain is heavier than this the sunroof must be closed manually.
  • The position of the solar glass cover in its closed or tilted position cannot be seen from the interior. Therefore it is a good idea to complete a general closing cycle (for example before entering a car wash) or tilting cycle (solar ventilation system or ventilation position).
  • It is not possible to return to the standard glass cover and headlining frame.

Exception: The removed cam is replaced by a new cam in the BMW dealership organisation or in an authorised BMW Service company (at high cost!).
