Installation Instructions

BMW 5 Series (F10, F11 only for cars with SA 205 or SA 2TB built before 07/2014 and F10, F11 cars with LA 802 and SA 205 or SA 2TB)

Installation instructions only valid for cars with N57D30O1 engine.

The M Performance Power Kit retrofit must only be operated with the upgraded brake system.

Installation time

The installation time for F3x cars with SA 2NH or SZ P1A is approx. 1 hour, for F3x cars without SA 2NH or SZ P1A it is approx. 2.5 hours.

The installation time for F10/F11 cars built before 07/2014 or LA 802 is approx. 2.5 hours.

The installation time for F15/F16 cars with SZ P1A and on cars built after 07/14 without LA 802 is approx. 1.0 hour, for F15/F16 cars without SZ P1A it is approx. 2.0 hours.

The installation time for F25/F26 cars is approx. 1.0 hour.

The installation times may vary depending on condition of the car and the equipment in it.

The installation time does not include any time for programming/encoding, as this depends on the age of the car and the equipment in it (I-stage update).

Important information

These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by authorised BMW service companies.

These installation instructions are intended for use by qualified specialist staff trained on BMW vehicles with the relevant expert knowledge.

All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, wiring diagrams, servicing manuals and work instructions, in a rational order, using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations.

If you experience installation or function problems, restrict troubleshooting to approx. 0.5 hours for mechanical work and 1.0 hour for electrical work.

To avoid unnecessary extra work and/or costs, send an inquiry straight away to the technical parts support team via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP).

Quote the following information:

  • Chassis number,
  • Retrofit kit part number,
  • A detailed description of the problem, – And any work already carried out.

Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are provided via ASAP!

Installation information

Update the I-stage to at least 13-11-500 or later!

Before exchanging the control units, transfer the IMA (integrated quantity compensation) values from the injectors.

When removing and installing the DDE control unit, the instructions on ESD protection (see ISTA 61 35 …) and the instructions on removing and installing control units (see ISTA 12 00 …) must be observed.

Brake upgrade kit I must be retrofitted in accordance with the relevant ISTA repair instructions in main group 34.

All pictures show LHD (left-hand drive) cars; proceed accordingly on RHD (right-hand drive) cars.

After the installation work, the retrofit must be programmed / coded via the – Conversion – path.

Only attach sticker set J following consultation with the customer; installation instructions are enclosed.

Workshop certificate

Print out the “Workshop certificate” section at the end of the installation instructions, fill it in and give it to the customer or file it in the vehicle’s paperwork.

Parts reports (for German-speaking countries only)

Print out the “Parts reports” section at the end of the installation instructions and give it to the appropriate professional.

3. Installing the M Performance Power Kit

Before exchanging the control units, transfer the

IMA values from the injectors. Install DDE control unit B (see ISTA 13 61 501).

F10/F11 cars only

Install charge air cooler A using the existing fastening material (see ISTA 17 51 000). Attach charge air cooler cover H.

F3x cars only

Clean all of the bonding surfaces on charge air cooler A and the opposite surface of the fan cowl

with cleaning pad K and treat with adhesion promoter pad L. Note the adhesion promoter’s ventilation time of 10 minutes.

Cut two fixing strips D to a length of 14 cm each and stick onto the surfaces (1) of charge air cooler A.

F15/F16 cars only

Install charge air cooler A using the existing fastening material (see ISTA 17 51 000).

The screw connection on charge air cooler A is only shown on the right-hand side; proceed accordingly on the left-hand side.

Install charge air cooler A using screws F and spacer sleeves G as shown.

Remove the adhesive backing film (1) from fixing strips D.

Guide the fan cowl (1) during installation over the previously affixed fixing strips and only once the final installation position is reached should it be pressed onto charge air cooler A.

Clean all of the surfaces to which stickers will be attached.

Stick information label E in the position shown on the fan cowl (1).

All cars

Clean all of the surfaces to which stickers will be attached.

4. Concluding work

The retrofit system requires programming / coding.

  • Connect the battery
  • Carry out a vehicle test using the ISTA system and note or work through any entered error memory
  • Change in the ISTA/P car programming
  • Select the “Diesel Performance” retrofit via the – Conversion – path and work through the created action plan
  • If using ISTA/P, please note the instructions provided in the ISTA/P application documentation
  • Re-assemble the car
