The protective covers are to be installed as set out in the installation instructions

If you fail to follow the instructions in the installation information, the BMW Group cannot accept any liability and all warranty claims against the BMW Group will be rendered void.

After the installation of the protective covers make particularly sure that each time the through-load facility is opened´, both backrest sections are always fully engaged in the backrest locks.

1.To remove and cover the headrests

Pull the headrests sharply upwards and out of the backrest.

Pull the protective cover (1) on to the headrests so that the recesses (2) line up with the engagement points (3).

Close the protective cover (1) with the zip fastener (4). Remove the headrest bars (5) if necessary before installation.

2.To remove and cover the rear seat bench

Raise the rear seat bench (1) at the front and take it out of the car.

Pull the protective cover (1) on to the seat bench (2) and adjust it to the contours. Tension and attach the protective cover (1) at the rear of the seat bench (2) using the rubber bands (3) or attach it to the retaining rings.

Ensure that the engagement openings (5) are not covered by the protective cover (1).

For the 3 Series compact (E46/5) only:

Pull the protective cover (1) on to the seat bench (2) and adjust it to the contours. Attach the rubber bands (2) to seat bench (2).

Find the position of the self-adhesive parts (4) of the protective cover Velcro strip by turning the protective cover (1) over. Affix the parts (4) and press the protective cover (1) into position.

3.To remove the rear seat backrests and centre armrest

[1] Release the rear seat backrests from the boot side and pull them down forwards. Remove the hexagonal screw (1) and take out the retaining bar (2). Take both backrest sections out of the car.

Pull down the centre armrest (1) in the 2/3 backrest section and remove the Torx bolt (2). Take the centre armrest (1) out of the 2/3 backrest section.

4.To cover the rear seat backrests and centre armrest

Pull the protective cover (1) on to the centre armrest (2) and adjust it to the contours. Close the Velcro fastener (4) at both sides. Pull the Velcro fastener lug (3) over the centre armrest (2) and attach the Velcro fasteners (5) to it.

Pull the protective cover (1) on to the 1/3 backrest section (2) and adjust it to the contours. Remove the backing foil from all Velcro strips. Press the Velcro fasteners (3) on to the 1/3 backrest section (2) and place the Velcro fastener lug (4) over them. Secure the Velcro fastener (5) to the Velcro fastener lug (4) and close the zip fastener (6).

Ensure that the engagement opening (7) is not covered by the protective cover (1).

Pull the protective cover (1) on to the 2/3 backrest section (2) and adjust it to the contours. Remove the backing foil from all Velcro strips. Press the Velcro fasteners (3) on to the 2/3 backrest section (2) secure the protective cover (1) with the rubber band (4). Turn back the Velcro fastener lug (5) and secure the Velcro fastener (6) to the Velcro fastener lug (5). Press all the other Velcro fasteners on to the 2/3 backrest section.

Ensure that the engagement opening (7) is not covered by the protective cover (1) and that the

opening for the ski bag (8) in the protective cover is precisely over the ski bag opening in the 2/3 backrest section.

5.To remove and cover the rear side sections

Pull out the side sections (1) as indicated by the arrows (A) and then take them upwards out of the car (B).

Pull the protective cover (1) on to the side sections (2) starting from the narrow side of the side section and adjust it to the contours. Take the backing foil off the selfadhesive Velcro strips and press the Velcro fasteners (3) on to the side section (2).

6.Installation information

Re-install all the parts you have removed in reverse order to their removal. After you have completed the installation work and push the rear seat backrests back into position, ensure that the backrests are properly secured.
