1. Important information

Installation time approximately 1 hour; this may be more or less, depending on the condition and equipment of the vehic le.

BMW accepts no liability for any damage or injury caused by non-compliance with the working steps and instructions. Moreover, any warranty claim made to BMW AG shall be invalid in the event of improper installation and handling which are not in accordance with the installation instructions.

Installation information

The accessory front apron should be installed by two people. Installation of the front apron is shown on the righthand side of the vehicle.The working steps on the left-hand side of the vehicle must be performed accordingly in the same order.

Safety information

You must ensure that the type plate or stamp in the front apron is not destroyed or made illegible by mechanical processing or enamelling.The type plate is stamped on the right-hand side and is legible from below. The installation of the front apron reduces the possible load of the vehicle by approximately 4.5 kg.

Enamelling information

The front apron is supplied primed and must be pretreated accordingly. Please observe the BMW enamelling ins truc tions when enamelling.

Working process: The front apron is made of PUR-R-RIM.

BMW acrylic enamel + 30% softface additive.

Maximum temperature for stove-enamelling 40ºC. Cover all bearing surfaces during enamelling so that adhesion is not impaired.

Enamel the grille in the accessory front apron in the colour of the car.

Cementing information

  • Please follow the instructions enclosed with the cement set for handling the cleaner and cement as well as the information on the cleaner and cement.
  • To achieve a high bond strength, the vehicle must have a room temperature of approximately 20ºC.
  • Clean the bonding surfaces on the vehicle front apron.The bonding surfaces must be absolutely dry, clean and free of wax and grease. Clean the bonding surfaces of the vehicle with the cleaner enclosed in the scope of supply immediately before cementing the front apron in place.
  • Rub all bearing surfaces (bonding surfaces) and the bonding groove of the front apron well with abrasive paper, removing any existing enamel entirely, and clean with cleaner.

After applying the cement, the front apron must be fitted within 15 minutes and any cement residue must be removed immediately using as patula and cleaner.

  • At a processing temperature of approximately 20ºC, the vehicle is ready to drive after approximately 5 hours. The bond will not withstand a car wash for 48 hours.

2. Installation

Information

Observe the general information and the safety information in Chapters 1 and 2.

Preparatory work …………………………………………………. Enamel the accessory front apron and grille in the colour of the car.

Preparatory work before installation ……………………….. Remove the bumper from the vehicle according
to repair instructions 51 11 000. Remove the grille for bumper moulding according to repair instructions 51 11 180.

Fold out the flap side!

A

1 Protective film (A1) ………………………………………… Loosen with a screwdriver, if necessary, and remove from the left and right sides of the accessory front apron (A) (if this has not yet been done after enamelling).\

2 Bonding groove (arrow)…………………………………… Abrade and clean the bonding groove on the accessory front apron (A) (see cementing information in Chapter 1).

3 Cellular rubber strip (D) …………………………………… Cement on in the centre (see figure B).

4 Cement (C) …………………………………………………… Apply in the bonding groove of the accessory front apron (A). Cement bead diameter approximately 4 mm.

5 Accessory front apron (A) ……………………………….. Place on the bumper (1), align and fix with adhesive tape (2).
Immediately wipe off any excess cement with Betaclean 3350.

6 Seat for series grille (arrow) ……………………………. of bumper (1) cut off

7 Grille (B) ………………………………………………………. Place on the bumper (1) or the accessory front apron (A), align and fix to the accessory front apron (A) with clips.

8 Accessory front apron (A) ……………………………….. Drill through the centre of the drilled holes (arrow) of the accessory front apron, drill bit diameter = 6 mm.

9 Accessory front apron (A) ……………………………….. Fix to the bumper (1) with body-bound rivets (E).

Refit the bumper in the reverse order to removal and border the grille with the rubber lips of the air ducts.
Remove adhesive tape and installation aid after approximately 2 hours (if necessary, cut off adhesive tape where it can be seen) and clean the bumper with Betaclean.

Please see the above-mentioned repair instructions for the tightening torque for the bumper screws.
