8. Notes on operation

F 32 65 296

Installation kit for electronic cruise control BMW 7 Series (E32)

For models built up to 9/87:

Any driving speed above approx. 45 km/h (28 mph) can be held constant and memorised.

Move lever towards position

1 – Constant:

The car’s road speed is maintained and the value memo rised. If the lever is held in this position, the car will acce lerate without the accelerator pedal being depressed. As soon as the lever is released, the speed then reached is maintained and memorised. A f ter the accelerator pedal has been pressed down, e.g. when overtaking , the car re turns to the memorised speed.

Move lever towards position

2 – Resume: The previously memorised speed is resumed. Move lever towards position 3 – 0

The cruise control system is switched off regardless of momentary operating and traffic conditions.

Switching off the cruise control system The cruise control system is switched off:

  • by moving the lever briefly to the 0 position
  • if the rate of decrease in speed exceeds 1.5 mis, e.g. on uphill gradients and also when the brake or clutch pe dal is depressed or the automatic transmission selector lever is moved from D to N.

Erasing a memorised speed

The memorised speed setting is erased when the ignition key is turned to position 1.

On models built from 9/87

F 32 65 297

Installation kit for electronic cruise control BMW 7 Series (E32)

Any driving speed above approx. 45 km/h (28 mph) can be held constant and memorised.

Move lever brief ly into position:

1 – ACCEL

The car’s road speed is maintained and the value memo rised. If the lever is held in this position, the car will acce lerate wi thout the accelerator pedal being depressed . As soon as the lever is released, the speed then reached is maintained and memorised. A fter the accelerator has been pressed down, e.g. when overtaking , the car returns to the memorised speed.

2 – DECEL

The car’s road speed is maintained and memorised.

If the lever is held in this position, the car will slow down (throttle c losed automatically) . The speed reached when the lever is released is then maintained and memorised. To increase or reduce the car’s speed by approx . 1 km/h, move the lever brief ly as often as required in the ACCEL. or DECEL. direction.

3 – RESUME

The previously memorised speed is resumed and main tained.

4 – OFF

The cruise control system is switched off regardless of momentary operating or traffic conditions.

Warning: only use the automatic cruise control in road

and traffic conditions which permit safe travel at a con stant speed.

To switch off the cruise control: move the control lever brief ly to OFF. The system is also switched off if the rate of deceleration exceeds 1.5 m/s2 • e.g. on uphill gradients, and also when the brake or clutch pedal is depressed or the automatic transmission lever is moved from D to N. The speed setting last memorised is erased when the ignition key is turned to position 1.
