BMW Installation Instructions

Installation time: approx. 0.5 hours – this may vary, depend­ ing on the condition of the vehicle and its fittings.

Instructions and illustrations are given for left-hand drive models. Various work stages must be carried out for right­ hand drive models in mirror-image fashion.

Note:

Installation instructions apply to all countries.

Order No. of installation kit 9410549, consisting of: Mid-range speakers, dia. 13 cm

Tweeters, dia. 19 mm

When using in vehicles without installed speakers, the necessary frequency-dividing network must also be ordered.

Note on installation:

The instructions below apply to those vehicles in which a speaker system (Stereo or HiFi) or radio fittings have already been installed.

Speaker cables must additionally be installed in those ve­ hicles which have not been fitted with the equipment men­ tioned above (cable length of frequency-dividing network may be sufficient).

When installing equipment supplied by other manufacturers, the relevant manufacturer’s installation instructions must be observed.

1. Removing Lower Side Panels

Remove door seals (1) in area of side panelling (2) from left and right A-columns in direction indicated by arrow.

Lever out cap ( 1) with a screwdriver and remove Phillips screw (2). Remove lever (3).

Turn four plastic hexagon socket-head screws (4) through 90″ and remove left side panel.

Turn two plastic hexagon socket-head screws (1) in right side panel (2) through go·and remove side panel (2).

2. Installing Mid-range Speakers in Side Panels

Disconnect speaker cable on existing speaker (1), unscrew nuts (2) and remove speaker (1) from side panel.

Place replacement speaker on side panel. Attach spring wa­ shers and tighten speaker down with four nuts (2). If necess­ ary, use the plastic screws from the enclosed pack.

Note on installation:

Reconnect speaker cables before installing side panels.

Speaker cable connections to mid-range speakers:

Right (in driving direction) Blue/brown to – pole of speaker Blue/red to + pole of speaker

Left ( in driving direction) Yellow/brown to – pole of speaker Yellow/red to + pole of speaker

Note

Frequency dividers must be built into the left and right foot­ wells in vehicles without speaker systems. The output cable with both 2.4 mm terminals is laid as illustrated. The output cable with 2.8 mm terminal = + and 2.4 mm terminal = – is connected to the footwell speakers.

The input cable of the frequency dividers is connected to the radio. The black wire is negative, the black/white wire is posi­ tive.

Frequency-divider cable connections to mid-range speakers : Left and right (in driving direction)

Black wire 2.4 mm terminal to – pole of mid-range speaker Black/white wire 2.8 mm terminal to + pole of mid-range speaker

3. Installing Tweeters

Lever out screens (1) on left and right sides of vehicle using a small screwdriver.

Note:

A recess (arrowed) is provided for locating the screwdriver .

Remove Phillips screws (arrowed), disconnect speaker cable and remove speaker.

Screw fastening bracket with hexagon nut onto tweeter. Secure tweeter with Phillips screws.

Note on installation:

Reconnect speaker cables before installing tweeters.

Speaker cable connections to tweeters:

Right (in driving direction) Blue/brown to – pole of speaker Blue/white to + pole of speaker

Left (in driving direction) Yellow/brown to – pole of speaker Yellow/white to + pole of speaker

Connection of frequency-divider cables laid up to tweeters in vehicles without speaker systems:

Black wire 2.4 mm terminal to – pole of tweeter Black/white wire 2.8 mm terminal to + pole of tweeter Reinstall panel in reverse sequence.
