BMW Installation Instructions
Specialised knowledge is required.
Installation time is approx. 1 to 2 hours, though this may vary according to condition and fittings of vehicle.
Instructions and illustrations are given for left-hand drive models. For right-hand drive models, work stages may have to be carried out in mirror-image fashion .
Drillings should be removed completely , bore holes burred and inorganic zinc applied.
All inflammable objects must be removed before welding. Parts which may be damaged by welding sparks should be either covered or removed.
Newly installed metal parts and areas impaired as a result of welding (new cavities, seams, grooves etc.) must be sealed with a BMW-approved preservative .
Tools and materials required
Screwdrivers, Nos. 2 and 4
Phillips screwdrivers , Nos. 2 and 4
Ratchet with 1/4″ drive
1/4″ drive socket, NF 8 mm, 10 mm, 16 mm
Double open-ended wrench, NF 12 mm – 13 mm
Side cutting pliers
Allen key, 5 mm
Drill bit, dia. 5.5 mm

1. Vehicle preparation and removal operations
- Print out fault memory
- Disconnect battery
- Remove luggage compartment mat and right-hand luggage compartment panel
- Remove first-aid kit and first-aid kit storage area
- Remove centre console
2. Radio/CD changer connecting lead

Feed 14-pin connector of connecting lead through radio installation aperture to centre channel. Connect rectangular angle connector to radio.

Lift up centre console (1) and lay connecting lead (2) as far as luggage compartment.

Lay connecting lead (1) along vehicle wiring harness as far as installation point of CD changer (rear right).
3. Installing CD changer

Set installation position of CD changer by adjusting screws located on side of changer . Unscrew securing screws (1). Turn adjusting screws (2) in one of directions indicated by arrows in diagram.
V = vertical installation
H = horizontal installation
Tighten securing screw (1).

Drill bore holes (1) of diameter 5.5 mm in both angle brackets (2).

Cut out drilling template (2) and position at water-drain edge. Mark bore points (1) with centre punch and drill through with drill bit of diameter 5.5 mm. Remove drillings and apply inorganic zinc.

Position LI-shaped washer and sealing washer (2) on bolt (1). Screw on bracket (3), spring washer , nut and bolt (1).

Secure retaining plate (1) to angle bracket (2) with hexagon bolt and mark welding points of support brackets (3).
Remove retaining plate (1) again and weld support brackets (3) to luggage compartment floor.

Screw on retaining plate (1) and angle bracket (2) using
LI-shaped washers (4) and hexagon bolts (5). Snap clamping nuts (6) into place in support brackets (3) and tighten hexagon bolts (7). Secure connector holder (8) and fit cable clips (9).

Use Phillips screws (3) to secure side brackets (1 and 2) to CD changer (4).

Install CD changer (1) (left-hand side first) and secure with hexagon bolt (2) (right-hand side).
4. Connecting CD changer

Screw 14-pin connector (1) of connecting lead onto 14-pin socket (2) of CD changer (3) and secure with cable clips (4). Connect tied-back connector (6) of radio wiring harness (5) to CD changer (3) socket (7) and push into connector holder (8).

Remove adhesive strip, pin (1) and Phillips screws (2). Cover bore holes with adhesive patches (3).
Instructions for CD changer are included in operation instructions for radio.
Carry out an operational check.
The luggage compartment mat and right-hand luggage compartment panel must be ordered separately.
Reinstall all removed parts in reverse sequence.
