BMW Installation Instructions
Specialised knowledge is required.
Installation time is approx . 2 to 3 hours, though this may vary according to condition and fittings of vehicle.
Instructions and illustrations are given for left-hand drive mo dels. For right-hand drive models, work stages should be car ried out in mirror-image fashion .
Drillings should be removed completely , bore holes burred and inorganic zinc applied.
Newly installed metal parts and areas impaired as a result of welding (new cavities, seams, grooves etc.) must be sealed with a BMW-approved preservative .
Tools and materials required
Torx screwdriver T10
Side cutting pliers
Open-jawed spanner , A/F 10 mm
Ratchet with 1/2″ drive
1/2″ drive socket, A/F 10 mm, 17 mm

1. Vehicle preparation and removal operations
- Print out fault memory
- Remove rear seat bench and backrest
- Disconnect battery
- Remove left panel in luggage compartment
- Remove centre console
- Remove rear left entrance strip
- Remove connecting lead for control unit/receiver
2. Long control unit/CD changer connecting lead

Feed white connector (1) of control unit/CD changer connec ting lead through installation aperture of control unit to centre channel. Connect rectangular angle connector to control unit.

Lay connecting lead (1) along and to rear of centre channel and guide it under carpet at point indicated by arrow in illus tration .

Pull back carpet and guide connecting lead (1) under cable cover (2) to seat base.

Remove split rivet (1).
Lay connecting lead under moulded part (2) on left seat base as far as luggage compartment.
Rub soap into rubber grommet.
3. Installing CD changer

Set installation position of CD changer by adjusting screws located on side of changer.
Unscrew securing screws (1). Turn adjusting screws (2) in one of directions indicated by arrows in the illustration .
V = vertical installation
H = horizontal installation
Tighten securing screws (1).

Pull away insulating mat from side panel and use two Phillips screws (3) to screw each bracket (1 and 2) onto side panel. Remove pre-marked surface of floor insulating mat (4).

Use Phillips screws (3) to secure interface (2) to bracket (1). Attach connector holder (4) and cable clips (5).

Use Phillips screws (3) to secure bracket (1) to the CD chan ger (2). Screw 14-pin connector (4) of interface (5) onto 14- pin socket (6) of CD changer (2) and secure with cable clips .

Use Phillips screws (3) to secure CD changer (1) to bracket (2).
4. Connecting CD changer

Attach white connector (1) of short receiver/interface connec ting lead (3) to receiver (2) and lay connecting lead (3) as far as interface.

Connect black connector (6) of the short receiver/interface connecting lead (with “CD-Wechsler” tag) to black interface socket (4). Connect white connector (5) of long control unit/in terface connecting lead (with “CD-Wechsler” tag) to white in terface socket (4).
Connect tied-back connector (1) of radio wiring harness to
CD changer (3) socket (2) and push into connector holder (7).

Remove adhesive strip, pin (1) and Phillips screws (2). Co ver bore holes with adhesive patches (3).
Instructions for CO changer are included in operation instruc tions for radio.
Carry out an operational check.
According to vehicle fittings , left-hand luggage compartment panel must be ordered separately .
Reinstall all removed parts in reverse sequence.
