If assembly is carried out in the workshop, the fitting instructions are to be handed over to the customer.

General Notes

The supply kit for the seat covers includes a folding stick. This folding stick assists in the covering of the seats with the seat covers.

Notes on care

Flocked velours:

These covers should be cleaned only with clear water and a duster or a brush.

Flat woven fabric:

These covers can be washed with customary detergents in the washing machine at up to 30° C.

Safety notes

The fitting of the seat covers is to be executed in accordance with the fitting instructions.

BMW accepts no liability for damage which occurs as a result of not following the work sequence and safety instructions. In addition, any warranty claim against BMW AG is extinguished in the event of improper fitting and handling which diverges from the fitting and operating instructions.

1. Model with head rests at rear

A mounting template is included in the supply kit. This Vigorously pull out the backrest upwards.

Now put the cover on the backrest in such a way that the one-piece transverse piece of material (1) is located in the direction of travel. Now attach rubber• band (2) tightly and seal the Velcro fastener (3).

2. Dismantle and cover rear-seat bench

Lift the rear-seat bench (1) out of the holders in the direction of the arrow and remove it from the vehicle.

Put the seat cover (1) on to the bench seat (2) and

adapt it to the contours. On the rear side of the bench seat (2), with the help of the rubber bands (3) tighten and hook the seat cover (1).

Note

Hook the rubber bands (3) in such a way that the fastening clamps (4) of the bench seat are not obscured.

3. Dismantle rear-seat backs

Only for compact:

Unlock the back rests and fold down. Undo the recessed head screw (1), remove bracket (2) and remove the locking clamp (3). Now remove the rear­ seat backs from the vehicle.

Only for 2-door and 4-door:

Undo the lower seat-belt attachment (1). Then remove the seat belts (2).

Unlock the rear-seat backs and fold down. Lift the cover (1) with screwdriver. Unlock hinge (2) while the catch is pushed back (see magnification). Now remove the rear-seat backs from the vehicle.

Put the seat cover (1) on the rear-seat back parts (2) and adapt to the contours. Seal with the help of the Velcro fasteners (3).

Note

Take care that the locking apertures (4) are not obscured by the seat cover.

On the front side of the rear-seat back parts a plastic cover (2) of the releasing and engaging mechanism is located. With the help of the folding stick supplied the opened out seat cover (1) is to be drawn under this plastic cover.

Only for 2-door and 4-door:

Here it is only necessary to align the seat cover (1) over the plastic cover (2).

5. Dismantle rear side-parts

Only for compact:

Undo plastic nut (1). Then lift out the side parts (2) in accordance with the arrow directions below (A) and remove from the vehicle upwards (B).

Only for 2-door and 4-door:

In accordance with the arrow directions draw out (A) the side parts (1) and then remove from the vehicle upwards (B).

6. Cover rear side-parts

Put the seat cover (1) on to the side parts (2) and adapt it to the contours. With the help of the rubber bands (3) tighten and hook the seat cover (1).

7. Fitting note

Re-install the rear-seat backs and rear-seat bench, as well as the headrests if used, in the reverse order to their disassembly.

After the re-assembly of the rear-seat backs (1) it is vital to check whether they are correctly locked. The backs are only correctly engaged if the red warning field (see arrow) has disappeared into the recessed grip (2).

Only 2-door and 4-door:

After installation and folding back of the rear-seat backs (1) it is vital to ensure that the backs have

locked correctly. The backs are only correctly engaged if the red slide (see arrow) has disappeared into the recessed grip (2).

Caution

If a rear-seat back has not engaged correctly, then the seat belt cannot be drawn out (see arrow) and used.
