General Notes

The supply kit for the seat covers includes a folding stick. This folding stick is an aid to covering the rear­ seat set with the seat covers.

Notes on care

Flocked velours:

These covers should be cleaned only with clear water and a cloth or a brush.

Flat woven fabric:

These covers can be washed with customary detergents in the washing machine at up to 30° C.

Safety notes

The fitting of the seat covers is to be executed in accordance with the fitting instructions.

BMW accepts no liability for damage which occurs as a result of not following the work sequence and safety instructions. In addition, any warranty claim against BMW AG is extinguished in the event of improper fitting and handling which diverges from the fitting and operating instructions.

1. Dismantle headrests and rear-seat bench

Pull the rear headrests (1) vigorously upwards out of the rear-seat back. Now pull the rear-seat back (2) upwards in the direction of the arrows and remove from the vehicle.

2. Cover headrests

Put cover (1) on the headrest and adjust to the contours. The cross flaps (2) must appear contrary to the direction of travel. Now hook up the elastic band (3) and make a tight closure with the Velcro fastener (4).

3. Cover rear-seat bench

Put the seat cover (1) on the rear-seat bench (2) and adjust it to the contours of the rear-seat bench. Using the rubber bands (3), stretch the cover underneath the rear-seat bench and hook up.

Note

Hook the rubber bands (3) in such a way that the fastening clamps (4) of the rear-seat bench seat are not hidden.

4. Dismantle and cover centre armrest

Vehicles without through-load system

In vehicles without the through-load system, the centre armrest (1) can be pulled out in the direction of the arrow. The cover is put on as shown in illustration

Vehicles with through-load system

In vehicles with the through-load system, the centre armrest (1) must be loosened by undoing two Phillips screws (2). The centre armrest can then be hooked out upwards and removed.

Cover the dismounted centre armrest (1) with the cover (2). Adjust the cover (2) to the contours of the centre armrest (1) and close with the Velcro fastener (3).

5. Dismantle and cover rear-seat back

Vehicles without through-load system

In vehicles without through-load system the rear-seat back is a single piece.

To dismantle the rear-seat back (1), the two self­ tapping screws (2) must be undone. Then lift the rear­ seat back (1) out of its holders in the direction of the arrows and remove from the vehicle.

Put the cover (1) onto the dismantled rear-seat back (2) and adjust it to the contours of the back. Using the rubber bands (3) and the Velcro fasteners (4), stretch and hook the cover (1) onto the rear side of the rear­ side back.

Vehicles with through-load system

In vehicles with the through-load system, the rear-seat back consists of a 1/3 part and 2/3 part and two separate side parts.

To dismantle the side parts (2), the two nuts (1) must be loosened. Then unclip the side parts (2) at the top

(A) and remove them upwards (B).

To dismantle the rear-seat back where there is a through-load system, the hex-head screws (1) on both sides must be loosened. Then the metal locking plate (3) must be removed by loosening the screw (2). Now the two rear-seat backs can be taken out of the vehicle.

Cover the 1/3 part and 2/3 part respectively with the cover (1) and adjust precisely to the contours. Fix the cover in place using the Velcro fasteners (2).

Note

Care has to be taken to see that the cover (1) does not hide the locking mechanism (3).

Cover the 2/3 parts with the cover (1) and adjust to the contours. At the front edge in the ski-bag area the film (2) protecting the pressure-sensitive Velcro fasteners is to be pulled off. The Velcro fasteners are to be folded over and closed so that the cover (1) is drawn tight. Then fasten the Velcro fastener (3) to the fabric surface (4).

On the front edge of the 1/3 and 2/3 parts there is a plastic covering (2) for the locking and unlocking mechanism. The cover (1) must be so arranged over the plastic covering (2) as to ensure its function.

Similarly cover the two side pieces with the cover (1). Then with the aid of the rubber bands (2), pull the specially adapted cover (1) tight over the back of the side pieces and hook it.

Note

Care has to be taken to see that the cover (1) with its hole is pulled over the mounting plate (3).

6. Fitting note

Re-install the seat back, seat bench and headrests in the reverse order of dismantling.

After assembly of the rear-seat backs (1), it is essential to check whether these are properly locked in position. The seat backs are only correctly locked when the red slide (see arrow) has disappeared into the plastic covering (2).
