BMW Installation Instructions
Technical knowledge is required
Installation time approx. 1.5 hours, which can vary according to the condition and fittings of the vehicle. Installation time for supplementary wiring harness approx . 2 hours.
The following additional components are required for retrofitting the electric sun-blind which are not contained in the supply kit:
- rear window shelf for sun-blind (dependent on colour and speaker system)
- 10A fuse , 10 cable ties
Required tools and auxiliary materials
Socket wrench SW 10 mm. SW 13 mm
Drilling machine Twist drill Ø 6 mm
- Dismantle rear seats
- Dismantle C-pillar trim panels on right and left
- Dismantle rear-window shelf
- Pre-assemble sun blind
- Install rear-window shelf with sun blind
- Install supplementary wiring harness
- Fit control switch
1. Dismantle rear seats

Lift seat bench (1) in direction of arrow out of the brackets and remove from the vehicle.

Pull off headrests (1) upwards.

Undo screws (1) and take out rear-seat backs (2) upwards.

Open upper part (1) of centre armrest (2) and pull upwards. At the same time draw the rear wall (3) of the upper part forwards to undo the locking mechanism.
2. Dismantle C-pillar trim panels on right and left

Prise interior light (1) in direction of arrow out of the C pillar trim panel (2) and draw out.
Pull out connector for interior light. Remove interior light.

Loosen the 3 screws (1) and pull C-pillar trim panel (2) off forwards.
3. Dismantle rear-window shelf

Remove the 4 expanding pins (1) . Take out the rear window shelf (2) forwards .
Vehicles with speaker systems in the rear-window shelf only

Prise out speaker cover (1) upwards.

Loosen screws (1).
Remove both parts of the rear-window shelf forwards.
4. Pre-assemble sun-blind

Insert the roller-blind guides (1) as shown into the recesses of the new rear-window shelf (2).
Introduce the roller-blind from below laterally into the recess of the rear-window shelf and centralise it.

Firmly press the plastic studs of the sun-blind guides into the drill holes (1) of the sun-blind housing (2) until they perceptibly engage.

Position the blind (1) and secure in place with the Velcro binders (2).

The retaining catches (1) of the blind guides must be locked in place behind the housing (2) of the blind.

Secure blind housing (1) with 6 nuts to the stay bolts of the rear-window shelf (2).

Refit the ventilation louver (1) from the old rear-window shelf into the new rear-window shelf.
5. Install rear-window shelf with sun-blind

Carefully tear out the three pre-punched cut-outs (1) of the insulation pads (2) (in the vehicle under the rear window shelf).

Carefully insert the rear-window shelf from the front.

Lay the connection cable (1) for the blind downwards along the main wiring harness.

From the boot, secure the blind housing with one nut (1) and two screws (2).
6. Install supplementary wiring harness
Necessary preparatory work:
- Print out error memory
- Disconnect battery

Loosen the plastic screw (1) on the covering of the sill (2) at the rear right. Pull covering (2) off upwards.

Pull off covering of the sill (1) upwards at front right.

Unclip the lower section of the B-pillar trim panel on the right (1) and pull away downwards.

Remove A-pillar trim panel on the right (1) in the passenger footwell.

Fold back carpet (1) in the passenger footwell in direction of arrow.
Dismantle wiring harness covering (2).

Loosen screw (1) in the centre console trim panel (2) and remove trim panel in a forwards direction.

Dismantle trim panel (1) between glove box (2) and centre console (3).

Connect up connector (1) of the electric sun-blind and connector (2) of the supplementary wiring harness.

Lay cable (1) of the supplementary wiring harness along the original wiring harness as shown and secure with cable ties.

Lay cable (1) along the wiring harness as far as the passenger footwell. In doing so use the existing cable attachments (2).

Loosen screws on the fuse-box lid (1) in the engine compartment and remove the lid.

Open out the fixing brackets (1) of the control-unit connectors (2) and pull out the connectors (2).
Pull control units upwards out of the fuse box and remove them.
Unclip carrier plate (3) and remove.
Vehicles without fuse-box ventilation

Screw off ventilation duct (1) from the fuse box.
The ventilation duct is located on the bulkhead in the passenger footwell behind the wiring harness.

A drill hole (Ø 6 mm) (1) is to be carefully made in the plastic wall which lies behind.

Put branch cable B of the supplementary wiring harness (1) through the ventilation duct (2). Put the cable end through the drillhole made in the fuse box, Fit the ventilation duct back on again.
Vehicles with fuse-box ventilation
In vehicles with fuse-box ventilation, making the drill hole does not apply as the opening in the fuse box exists, being factory-made. In this case, branch cable 8 is also to be laid through the ventilation duct into the fuse box.

Unclip and remove relevant fuse strip (1) (see fuse assignment on the upper surface of the fuse box).

Release fuse strip (1) by pulling out the locking pin (2). Then insert blade terminal (3) of branch cable B into the plug-in place designated for it on the fuse strip (1) (see fuse assignment on the upper surface of the fuse box). Insert 10 Amp fuse.
Lay cable in the fuse box with cable ties. Reassemble fuse box and screw on cover .

Unclip and extract earth joint-connector (1) and joint connector (2), (cable colour grey-red) behind the centre console trim panel (3).
Connect branch cables C and D of the supplementary wiring harness to the related joint connectors.
The joint connectors are accessible from the passenger footwell.
Fit the joint connectors back again.
Lay the supplementary wiring harness along the existing wiring harness.
7. Fit control switch

Carefully prise out the switch-panel covering (1).

Carefully prise out and withdraw the heating switch combination (1).

Thread existing connector (1) (green) or branch cable E of the supplementary wiring harness through a free switch aperture.

Insert connector (1) into the control switch (2). Put the control switch in a free plug-in place in the centre console. Cut the switch panel covering (3) down to the right length and insert again. Fit the heating-switch combination.
Fit all parts back again and test the sun-blind for correct functioning in accordance with the instruction manual for the vehicle.
