If fitting is done in the workshop, the fitting instructions are to be handed to the customer.

Safety notes

The fitting of the seat covers is to be executed in accordance with the fitting instructions.

BMW accepts no liability for damage which occurs as a result of not following the work sequence and safety instructions. In addition, any warranty claim against BMW AG is extinguished in the event of improper fitting and handling which diverges from the fitting and operating instructions.

General notes

The supply kit for the seat covers includes a folding stick. This folding stick is an aid to covering the rear­ seat set with the seat covers.

Notes on care

Flocked velours:

These covers should be cleaned only with clear water and a cloth or a brush.

1. Dismantle and cover headrests

Pull all three headrests (1) vigorous ly upwards and remove from the backrests.

Now put the covers on the headrests in such a way that the transverse single piece of cloth (1) i s to the rear of direction of travel. Then pull the rubber bands (2) tight and attach them and seal the Velcro strip (3).

2. Dismantle rear seat bench

Pull off the plastic covers (1) to the seat – belt buckles on the rear seat bench in an upwards direction and remove.

Now lift the rear seat bench (1) out of the supports in the direction of the arrows and remove from the vehicle.

3. Cover rear seat bench

Draw cover (1) onto the seat bench (2) and adjust it to the contours . With the aid of the rubber bands (3), pull the cover (1) tight on the reverse side of the seat bench (2) and hook them up.

Note

It is essential to make sure that the fastenings (4) for the seat bench are not covered by the rubber bands (3).

4. Dismantle and cover side parts

Remove the roller cover for the boot or the boot separation net as the case may be. Now the side parts can be unclipped in a forward direction (A) and then removed from the vehicle in an upwards movement in the direction of the arrow (B).

Draw the covers (1) onto the side pieces (2) and adjust to the contours. Pull the cover (1) tight with the help of the rubber bands (3) and hook them up.

Note

It is essential to make sure that the fastenings (4) are not covered by the rubber bands (3).

5. Dismantle and cover rear-seat back

The rear-seat back consists of a 1/3 part and a 2/3 part.

Unlatch the backrests and fold forwards. Then remove the trim plate (1) , which is between the folded-down backrests, upwards in the direction of the arrow.

Unscrew and remove the hexagon head screw (1) on the outside of both seat backs.

Now press the locking device (1) back in the direction of the arrow and remove the backrest parts from the vehicle.

Cover the 1/3 part

The plastic covering (1) on the back of the 1/3 part should be moved across (A) in the direction of the buckle (2) and removed upwards (B).

Put the cover (1) on the 1/3 part (2) and adjust to the contours. Draw the cover (1) tight and seal with the Velcro fasteners (3).

Note

It is essential to make sure that the locking and moving mechanism (4) is not hidden by the cover.

Cover the 2/3 part

The plastic covering on the 2/3 part should be removed in the same way as the one on the I/3 part was removed (see illustration F 34 82 111).

Turn the centre armrest (1) up. Then undo the mounting screw (2) and remove the centre armrest ( I ) from the 2/3 part (3).

Put the cover (2) on the 2/3 part (1) and adjust it to the contours. Pull the cover (2) tight on the back of the 2/3 part (1) and seal with the Velcro fasteners (3).

Note

It is essential to make sure that the locking mechanism

(4) is not hidden by the cover and that the recess (5) provided in the cover (2) for the ski bag (if your car is equipped with one) is left perfectly clear.

Straighten the cover ( I ) at the front side in the area of the dismantled centre armrest. Now pull the protective film (2) off the adhesive bands and then seal the cover (1) to the 2/3 part with the aid of the adhesive bands.

Cover centre armrest

Put the cover (2) on the dismantled centre armrest ( I ) and adjust it precisely to the contours. Then, with the aid of the rubber bands (3), pull the cover (2) tight on the back of the centre armrest (1).

Cover 1/3 and 2/3 part

The cover ( I ) now has to be drawn under the plastic covering (2) of the backrest release on both backrest parts with the aid of the supplied folding stick.

6. Fitting note

Install all components of the rear seating again in the logically reverse order to that in which they were dismantled.

After assembly of the rear-seat backrests (1), it is essential to check whether they are locked in correctly.

The backrests are locked in correctly if the red warning field (see arrow) has disappeared into the grip recess (2).
