EBA – 01 29 9 790 029
BMW Installation Instructions

(For use in the BMW dealer organisation only). Specialised knowledge is required.

Installation time is approx. 3 hours, though this may vary depending on the condition of the vehicle and its fittings.

Knowledge of electrics is required.

Notes

Instructions and illustrations are given for left-hand drive models (LHD). Certain work steps must be carried out in mirror-image fashion for right-hand drive models (RHD).

Lay the cables so that they can be neither kinked nor squashed.

The seat heating is ready for operation when the ignition key is in position 2 (term. 15).

If the car is equipped with electric seat adjustment, the electrical connections for seat-cushion and seat- backrest heating may already be provided. In this case, cable strand B is not required and the work steps detailed in Chapter 4 can be ignored.

The seat and backrest covers and the switch cover must be ordered separately.

3. Installing Power-Supply Cable

Instructions and illustrations are given in this chapter for left-hand drive models. The work steps must be carried out in mirror-image fashion for right-hand drive models.

F 39 52 004 M

For installation of the driver’s and passenger seat heaters, the seat connections A6-A8 are laid differently. The illustration shows a left-hand drive model. For right-hand drive models, the illustration must be used in mirror-image fashion.

Lay power-supply cable along vehicle wiring harness:

Branch A1 to fuse carrier.

Branch A2 to centre console, switch strip.

Branch A3 to fan-connector box, passenger’s side. Branches A4/A5 to fan-connector box, driver’s side. Branches A6-A8 to 6-pin jack housing, X275 or X279, under the seat.

F 39 61 007 M

Case 1

If fuse no. 32 is already assigned, branch A1 is insulated and tied back.

Connect branch A3, green/black/yellow, to same- colour fan connector X1447 in fan-connector box behind glove compartment.

Case 2

If fuse no. 32 is not assigned, lay branch A1, green/ black/yellow, to fuse strip X10015 (1) and press into plug-in station no. 64. Insert 15A fuse in plug-in station no. 32.

F 39 52 003 M

Note

If the fan-connector box is already fully assigned, fan connector A3 is tied back to the vehicle wiring harness with a cable strap.

Secure branch A3, green/black/yellow X1447, in fan- connector box (1) behind glove compartment.

F 39 52 005 M

Lay branches A6/A7/A8 along vehicle wiring harness and press into jack housing X275 or X279 (1) under seat.

Branch Cable colour Plug-in station
A6 brown 1
A7 white/blue 2
A8 white/yellow 3

F 39 52 006 M

Depending on the car’s fitted equipment, the cover for the switch strip may differ in length and must therefore be ordered separately from the Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC).

Lay branch A2 (yellow 6-pin jack housing) along vehicle wiring harness to centre console. Connect seat-heating switch S53 or S54 provided and press into retaining frame. Clip in cover for switch strip.

F 39 52 007 M

Note

If the required fan connector is already completely assigned, the branch is connected to the cable with the largest cross-section in the fan connector.

Lay branches A4, brown/black, and A5, grey/red, along vehicle wiring harness to fan-connector box (1) under instrument panel on driver’s side.

Lay branch A4, brown/black, to same-colour fan connector X217.

Lay branch A5, grey/red, to same-colour fan connector X908.

4. Installing Seat Wiring Harness

F 39 52 008 M

Depending on the equipment fitted, the seat may already be prewired.

On the seat with lumbar support, plug-in station 1 is already assigned with a cable, brown (0.5 mm2).

Press brown cable for lumbar support out of pin housing X275 or X279 and press branch B5, brown (1.5 mm2), into plug-in station 1. Insert pressed-out pin contact into supplied pin housing and connect with branch B6, X6500 brown (0.5 mm2).

If branch B6, brown (0.5 mm2), is not required, tie branch back to seat wiring harness with a cable strap. Lay branches B3/B4/B5 to pin housing X275 or X279 (1) as follows:

Branch Cable colour Plug-in station
B3 white/blue 2
B4 white/yellow 3
B5 brown 1.5 mm2 1

F 39 52 009 M

Lay branch B1, black 3-pin pin housing, to backrest on left side of seat under shaft for backrest adjustment. Connect branch B1, X732 or X741, with jack housing of backrest cover (1) and secure plug connection to seat frame with clip (2).

F 39 52 002 M

Connect branch B2, white/black 3-pin pin housing, with jack housing X733 or X740 (1) of seat cover. Secure wiring harness to seat base with cable straps.

Connect battery.

Reinstall all parts that have been removed in reverse sequence.

Carry out a test for correct operation.
