BMW Installation Instructions

Intended for use in BMW dealer organisation only. Installation time for vehicles with stereo/HiFi system but without on-board monitor radio 4 hours.

Installation time for vehicles with stereo/HiFi system and with on-board monitor radio and/or BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi) 1 hour.

The installation time can vary depending on the condition and equipment of the vehicle.

Knowledge of the electrical system is required.

Note

The connection cable is only installed in the trunk on vehicles with on-board monitor radio and/or BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi). It is not necessary to carry out the steps described in Section 3. Depending on the equipment variant, the following parts must be ordered separately:

1. Vehicles with stereo/HiFi system but without onboard monitor radio:

long connection cable

2. Vehicles with on-board monitor radio but without BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi): short connection cable

3. Vehicles with BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi):

short coaxial cable

Required tools and other equipment:

Screwdriver for recessed cross-head screws
Socket wrench WAF 8 mm, 10 mm
Screwdriver for slotted head screws
1/2 inch Torx socket T50
1/4 inch reversible ratchet
1/4 inch extension piece
1/4 inch socket T20, T25

1. Vehicle Preparation – Removal

Print out fault code memory
Disconnect battery
Remove left-hand trunk trim panel
Only on vehicles with stereo/HiFi system but without

on-board monitor radio:
Remove front left seat
Remove centre console
Remove left sill strips
Fold forward rear seat backrest
Remove side section of left-hand backrest
Remove trunk cover and left wheelhouse cover
Remove left and right trunk floor cover next to spare wheel recess
Remove tool holder

Only on vehicles with on-board monitor radio and/or BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi):

Remove trunk floor cover and left wheelhouse cover
Remove cover from on-board monitor radio Remove tool holder

3. Installing Connection Cable, Radio/CD Changer

(Only on vehicles with stereo/HiFi system but without on-board monitor radio)

Route connection cable (B) from radio (1) on left under centre console (2) between transmission tunnel (3) and carpet along cross member floor panel (4).

In area of sill (5) route connection cable (B) parallel to vehicle wiring harness up to place of installation of CD changer (6) on left-hand side of trunk. Secure connection cable with cable ties.

Connect 10-pin socket housing (B1) of connection cable (B) to 17-pin socket housing (1) and secure with retaining clip (2).

Plug 17-pin socket housing (1) onto 17-pin pin housing (3) on radio.

Install radio.

4. Installing Connection Cable, Radio/CD Changer

(Only on vehicles with on-board monitor radio but without BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi))

Disconnect 17-pin socket housing (1) from on-board monitor radio (2). Connect 10-pin socket housing (C1) of connection cable CD changer/on-board monitor radio (C) to 17-pin socket housing (1) and secure with retaining clip (3).

Plug 17-pin socket housing (1) on to 17-pin pin housing of on-board monitor radio (2). Route connection cable (C) to place of installation of CD changer and secure with cable ties parallel to the vehicle wiring harness.

5. Installing Coaxial Cable, DSP Amplifier/CD Changer

(Only on vehicles with BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi))

Plug pin housing (D1) of coaxial cable (D) into socket housing (2) of DSP amplifier (1).

Route pin housing (D2) of coaxial cable (D) to place of installation of CD changer.

Secure coaxial cable (D) with cable ties parallel to vehicle wiring harness.

6. Connecting Power Supply Cable

(Only on vehicles with stereo and without telephone)

Disconnect 12-pin plug connection X322 (1). Connect branch (2), white/grey/yellow wire, from power supply cable (A) to plug-in slot No. 4. For this purpose, press contact socket out of plug connector X322 (1) and connect double with 1-pin black socket housing (A5). Connect cable eye (A1) to ground terminal point X13018 (2). Route power supply cable (A) parallel to vehicle wiring harness to place of installation of CD changer.

Route branch (A3) along original wiring harness (2) on trunk floor from left to right to tied-back plug connections X325 (1) and secure.

Disconnect plug connection X325 (1).

Connect branch (A3), red/green wire, from power supply cable (A) to plug-in slot No. 1. For this purpose, press contact bush out of plug connection X325 (1) and connect double with 1-pin black socket housing (A5).

7. Installing Basic Holder for Audio Components

Press expanding nut (1) in hole provided.

Fit clamping nuts (1) and cable support brackets (2) on basic holder (3). Fit basic holder (3) in position and secure with hexagon self-tapping screw (4) and plastic nuts (5).

8. Removing Transport Retainer from CD Changer

Remove the three transport retaining screws (1) from CD changer (2) and close off openings with adhesive covers provided. Check setting of installation location for CD changer:

The setting mechanism (3) must be set to V (vertical installation).

Remove cover (4) and set setting mechanism (3) to V (vertical installation).

9. Connecting CD Changer

Only on vehicles without BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi):

Plug 6-pin socket housing (B2 or C2) from connection cable (B or C) into pin housing (1) of CD changer N22 (2). Connect 3-pin socket housing (A4) of power supply cable (A) or existing power supply cable X18180 (A4) to pin housing (3) of CD changer N22 (2).

Only on vehicles with BMW HiFi system Professional DSP (Top HiFi):

Plug pin housing (D2) of coaxial cable (D) into socket housing (4) of CD changer N22 (2). Connect 3-pin socket housing of existing power supply cable X18180 (A4) to pin housing (3) of CD changer N22 (2).

10. Installing CD Changer

Fit CD changer (1) in support bracket (2) and secure with recessed cross-head screws (3).

Note

Upper securing holes remain clear.

Fit CD changer (1) preassembled with support bracket on basic holder (2) installed in the vehicle and secure with hexagon screws (3). Secure connection cable from CD changer (1) with cable clips (4) from inside at holes (5).

Note

Take care during assembly to ensure that no cables are trapped.

Connect battery.

Carry out function test.

Assemble vehicle in reverse order of disassembly.

Print out fault code memory.

11. Encoding

This system does not require encoding.

12. Function

The function of the CD changer is described in the IRIS, MID and on-board monitor operating instructions.

For your own safety, only use accessories approved by BMW.
