The procedures and safety instructions for fitting and handling the support frame set out in these fitting instructions must be observed to the letter.

The support frame is designed such that if it is fitted and used correctly, neither the hardtop nor the car can suffer any damage.
BMW cannot accept any liability for damage caused by ignoring the work and safety instructions set out in this document. In addition, if the support frame is not fitted and handled properly as set out in these fitting
instructions, no claims against BMW AG under the guarantee will be accepted.

1. To assemble the support frame

Bolt the cross traverse (b) to the longitudinal traverse (a) using the ring nut (e). Tighten the ring nut (e) securely.

The threaded studs (1) on the cross traverse must point upwards.

2. To position the car under the support frame

Suspend the assembled on the spring hooks and crank the support frame upwards under the roof.

The support frame must be cranked upwards so that you can then place your car under it without any problems.

Drive your car into the garage so that the support hook (1) on the longitudinal traverse (a) is over the centre of the front edge of the hardtop (2).

Now release the hardtop as described in the hardtop instructions for use.

Lower the assembled support frame until the support hook (1) can be slid easily under the front edge of the hardtop.

3. To engage the longitudinal travers e on the hardtop

Raise the hardtop at its front edge slightly and slide the support hook (1) under this front edge.

Please the hardtop with the engaged support hook on the windscreen panel (1) of the car.

4. To insert the holding bar into the loc king bolt

The fitting instructions for the holding bar are illustrated showing the left-hand side of the vehicle. It must be fitted in exactly the same way on the right-hand side.

Always ensure that you carry out this work fully to prevent the hardtop slipping.

Raise the hardtop around the rear locking bolt (1) until you can insert the holding bar (c) and the fit the mounting (2) on the locking bolt. Then lower the hardtop back into the recess (3).

When the hardtop has been lowered, the locking bolt (1) must fit into the mounting (2).

5. To bolt the holding bar to the c ros s travers e

Engage the holding bar (c) in the threaded stud (1) on the cross traverse (b).

Bolt the holding bar to the cross traverse using the star handles (d). Tighten the star handles securely.

6. To raise the hardtop with the support frame

Before raising the hardtop, first check the following points:

  • Is the spring hook closed?
  • Is the front mounting hook engaged?

Carefully raise the hardtop off the car using the Universal Lift. Y ou may have to help release the hardtop from the car by hand. C rank the hardtop up to the garage roof, remove the crank handle and place it on the wall bracket.

Proceed in reverse order to fit the hardtop to the car.

7. To raise the hardtop in the hardtop c over with the s upport frame

You can also raise your hardtop in the hardtop cover using the support frame for storage under the garage roof.

Pull the hardtop cover over the hardtop as described in the instructions for use for the hardtop cover.

To raise the hardtop using the support frame, the locking sleeves on the hardtop cover (1) must not be connected to the locking bolts (2).

Then place the hardtop in the hardtop cover on the floor under the two spring clips on the Universal Lift.

Fit the support frame to the hardtop following the instructions on the previous pages.

Before raising the hardtop, first check the following points:

  • Is the spring hook closed?
  • Is the front mounting hook engaged?

Carefully raise the hardtop off the floor using the Universal Lift and store it under the garage roof.
